IB knocked it out of the park with this one I received the Arctic hoodie for Christmas, and bought this on a boxing day sale. I think IB really knocked it out of the park with this sweater. The fit is compact, streamlined, and very comfortable. (It could also be billed as "the sweater for midwinter runs if you own an iPhone, as there's the big iPod pocket in the arm — smart, although I can't say I've tested the feature personally.) While the Arctic hood is substantially thicker, I feel IB didn't get the cut quite right around the waist/hips. Here's it's perfect. I was hoping that this would work as a layer when I do high-intensity aerobic activity for when it's really cold (like - 25°C – -30°C), and it performs nicely with a base layer or two under plus a lightweight shell over. The lack of bulk and flats seams really distinguish this from any other hoodie I have. I'm just delighted with this. I'm 5'6", 115 lbs, took the XS. While I normally try to avoid black in the winter, I ended up with this in the black and it's just elegant. I'm going to get a lot of use out of this year-round, I can tell! January 26, 2013
weekend in the adirondacks, fell in love I love this hoodie. This is my first review, ever, but I am compelled to thank Icebreaker for making the most beautiful and elegant piece of outdoor + casual gear I have ever owned. For reference, I have a black, Medium Cascade, and am 5'6, athletic build, B-C cup, 28ish waist, it fits perfectly. Thank you for making the back slightly longer than the front, I love that when I'm sitting on the ground in front of a stove my lower back is fully covered. I wore this on a 40 hour hike in the adirondacks over the summer, minimal gear to go fast, slept in it in a pile of pine branches, got up at dawn and kept hiking in it. Kept me warm. Later the second day I wore it to a bar at the trailhead and got a compliment on it. Wore it over a skirt, so it dresses up well. My girlfriends are so jealous of it and I know it's only a matter of weeks til they get their own, but for now I am loving it being my new thing. Also, it does not smell, I am constantly amazed, can wear 3-4 trips without washing it, why is that? It has replaced the polyester pile jackets I used to wear. Breathes well. THANK YOU guys so much, I love this hoodie. September 19, 2012
I love this hoodie. I bought this hoodie this past winter and have practically lived in it since. It is so soft and warm. It's great on its own, or I layer it with the 260 tech top and a tech t for added warmth when snowboarding. I bought a large, but it stretched just a little so I think I could have gone with a medium (I'm 5'4" and 140lbs). Overall I love the Realfleece line. June 14, 2012
no longer chilly The small jacket fits snug on my 5 foot 3 inch, 115 lb torso. I am usually really cold as I have Raynauds condition in my extremeties..so anything that keeps me warm I rave about..this is the mid layer for me! Really warm and super comfy as a layering piece under my rain shell and hiking/skiing parkas. Love the fitted hood for more protection from the elements and under my ski helmet if I want some layering on a cold day on the slopes. Easy to care for and maintains its shape, softness and color. Gorgeous blue color and detailing. Lots of useful pockets and flat seams. It appears to be really durable even with my dog jumping up on it all the time! The only drawback is hanging to dry, but it can be worn multiple times before it needs laundering if worn over a baselayer and dries overnight. LOVE IT !!! January 23, 2012
A Perfect Hood Jacket for San Francisco The Icebreaker Women's Cascade Hood Fleece Jacket was a Christmas gift to my wife. It is a replacement for a beloved cotton Hood Jacket. On cool days in San Francisco (mid 50s to low 60s) the Merino wool is quite serviceable as an outer-layer. On colder, windier days my wife uses it a mid-layer. My wife is 5’6” at 133lbs. The fit is athletic and designed to be snug, and this took a little while for her to get used to. Medium fit her perfectly. The Jacket, itself, is soft and warm, and looks to be solidly constructed. Even though she has only had the Jacket a few weeks, she is quite pleased with it and is convinced it will wear well. January 5, 2012
great quality I love my icebreaker jacket. It is super warm and feels very comfortable on the skin. The fit is perfect and true to size. I washed it twice already without loss in quality. I love the icebreaker products and this jacket will not disappoint you. It's a must for cold winter days. December 14, 2011
Worth every penny Firstly, the service at Icebreaker was good. I ordered it on a Sun and, while I never received an email confirming that my item had actually shipped, I received the item on the following Thurs. I was pretty impressed at such quick turnaround! I would have preferred an email confirming shipment, but with their generally quick response I can't really complain. Secondly, the jacket itself. The color is brighter than appears in the online photo, but still lovely. I'd expected more of a burgandy and a co-worker described it as "blood red". The wool is soft and not at all itchy, and the garment is definitely well made. The seams are clean, the pockets almost invisible, and there's a zipper guard the full length of the main zipper. I love how the hood is fitted rather than loose when put up. Nothing is more annoying than having to hold your hood in place! I also really like how the jacket is long, hitting me at the hip. I followed the other reviewers' advice, definitely order a size up! I'm normally a S and the M fits perfectly. I prefer a semi-fitted jacket anyway so I can layer underneath, and this has room for a long sleeved shirt if desired. For some perspective I'm 5'4" with 39" hips, 28.5" waist, and 34A chest. I have wide shoulders and the M is still a touch wide in the shoulders, but only if I'm being nit-picky. Overall the fit is excellent and the quality is superb. I wouldn't hesitate to buy an Icebreaker product again. My only disappointment is that mine doesn't have a baaacode! November 20, 2011
Cascade Hood I have many pieces of Icebreaker - it seems the line just keeps getting better and better, especially with their new urban line. The Cascade Hood is amazing - I purchased in Auckland. I more often reach for it now instead of my beloved Patagonia R2 and R3 fleece. Overall, I find that Icebreaker runs smaller - I typically wear large to XL jackets, but always XL with Icebreaker. I am 5'11" and weight 160 pounds. You will never regret the money you spend for Icebreaker - it wears and wears, and wears!! Wash after wash after wash, and it still looks new. I have tanks and camis that are over 6 years old and washed weekly during winter months - and they still look new. October 22, 2011
love it The blue color of this jacket is vibrant and alive, and I love the warmth and sleek style. It runs small however, as I usually buy small and ordered a medium which was almost too small. May keep it, but ordering a large to see if it is like a medium. September 21, 2011
Cascade hood slightly binding This hoody feels great, the fabric and thickness and softness but when you swing your arms around it is slightly binding behind the shoulders, and for this reason i will return it. The hood is nicely shaped, fits perfectly. I am 5'4" and have a small. The length is good, pockets well placed, January 25, 2012
