Expedition diary
Day 1
Arrival in Iceland. Winter returns. Storm after storm moving across the island. Roads closed. Plans already shifting. We wait, watching the weather move through. Nothing settles. No clear start point. Just windows, and we take them when they come.
Day 2
South Coast. Moving between snow and exposed ground. Constant transitions underfoot. Wind clears sections, then covers them again. We adjust our route as we go. Slowing down. Rerouting. Nothing holds for long.
Day 3
Further inland. The scale is hard to read. Everything feels distant. Moss underfoot — fragile, slow-growing. Ground unstable in places. Heat just below the surface. We move carefully. Human presence feels small here.
Day 4
North to the Westfjords. Remote and exposed. The final stretch by boat. No signal. No access.Just ocean, mountains and snow. We arrive with no fixed plan. Only what the conditions allow.
Day 5
Skiing from sea level. Visibility shifts within minutes. Sun breaks, then whiteout. We move when it opens. Stop when it closes. Wind rising, waves building. Even the return isn’t certain. Nothing is fixed. We adapt as we go.
